Think big, act small.

It’s not possible to say that Bezos is a small thinker. He thinks big, he acts big. He did that with Amazon. He did that by buying Alexa at very early stage. Alexa was a small San Fransisco startup with very healthy web traffic data.

The zdnet blog http://blogs.zdnet.com/web2explorer/?p=350 hosts a very nice summary of what happened between Alexa and Alexaholic (Statsaholic now) and how Amazon filed a dispute against creator of Alexaholic.

There are many blogs on the web about this specific incidence. Actually Alexa has also forced alexadex.com to change its name (to urladex.com, they decided), but my comment will not be on specifics of these files.

I believe in the next generation of protecting the brands. Protecting your brand cannot be done this way any more, Bezos. It is the web 2.0 era. Two point oh is not just about Ajax technologies or community sharing knowledge. It is about a shift in the paradigms. It is about developing, sharing and operating in a revolutionary new way. In a revolutionary new world.

At one side, you will sit with O’Reilly, and many webmasters 2.0, and you will not be able to answer why you are sending your lawyers on a pretty nice guy who has helped you so much teaching you how to take your service to the next level.

Be good to people, be good to community.

Brand protect 2.0: create a brand, let people talk about it, let users create brands about your brand. Let your community value your brand. Or - be ugly. Your call.
